Install Windows Recovery Console in Windows Boot Menu

Rated as
If you want to repair Windows installation but can’t get into the Recovery Console of the CD Rom as was the problem of one of our readers, then why not install the Recovery Console directly inside the Windows Boot Menu?

Wouldn’t it be great if you want to access the recovery console but you can do this directly from your drive and not CD, so that you don’t have to search the CD in case of a Windows Failure?
Steps:
1.    Insert the Windows XP CD in the CD Drive but make sure that both the service pack in the CD and the one installed are same.
2.    Now open Run Box, and type the command X:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons where X is your CD drive letter.
3.    A Windows Setup box will come up, click Yes to proceed.

4.    Another dialog box will come up reading “Windows Recovery Console has been successfully installed”.
Just restart the computer to start using the Recovery Console directly in the computer without the CD.

Steps to Remove MIRC Virus

Rated as
One of our readers was facing problems due to the virus named as mIRC which is also known as IRC-Worm.Mircup, IRC/DeathTech, WIN.IRC.Virus and Trojan:IRCDeath.  The Trojan operates mostly upon IRC (Internet Relay Chat) if that is installed in the system. This Trojan is designed to update the mIRC version and looks like a harmless and useful program but in reality it does something that disables the mIRC or even causes some serious system problems.

Steps:  To remove the Trojan perform following actions
1.    Look for a process titled “irc-worm.mircup.exe” in the task manager and kill it.
2.    Also search for the same file “irc-worm.mircup.exe” in the computer to delete it.
3.    Now download the Malwarebytes Anti Malware and scan the system using it.

Hope the Trojan is removed.

Difference between Format and Quick Format

Rated as
Last Night my Friend called me and asked me Difference between Format and Quick Format
When installing new copy of Windows you must have noticed following options:
•    Format the partition by using the NTFS file system (Quick)
•    Format the partition by using the FAT file system (Quick)
•    Format the partition by using the NTFS file system
•    Format the partition by using the FAT file system
•    Leave the current file system intact (no changes)
Why Microsoft has given two options of regular format and Quick Format when one is sufficient? If you do not know the difference between the two then here are the points.
Quick Format:
Quick format permanently removes the file from the disk but does not scan the partition for bad sectors. This option should be chosen if the drive has been scanned earlier and you are sure that the disk is not damaged.
Regular Format:
This format not only removes the files permanently but also scans the disk for bad sectors hence the time taken for this format is more than the Quick format. Use normal format to avoid future disk errors in the drive.
